Is the “every other day” diet safe and effective? Is it an effective means of weight loss in the short term as well as for a lifetime? On today’s show we talk about intermittent fasting, and in particular the “every other day” version. Is it feasible to eat every other day and lose weight and stay healthy for life?

So who shouldn’t try intermittent fasting? People who are hypoglycemic or diabetic should avoid it can potentially use intermittent fasting, but should definitely consult with their doctor and use caution. Some people should avoid it altogether like those with chronic stress, also known as adrenal fatigue. If you suffer from cortisol dysregulation then intermittent fasting is something you shouldn’t try as well. And of course it’s never good for women who are pregnant or nursing to fast period. The nutritional needs of the baby come first always.
So what can you do if you can’t do intermittent fasting? Eat plenty of whole foods. This includes things like rice, potatoes, beans, lentils and corn. But you don’t want to load them up with fat causing things like butter or animal products. You should also be sparing with the salt.
Fermented foods are great for keeping up your gut flora. I personally eat a lot of sour kraut and drink Kombucha.
